A bit about us...
Platform One is a small Creative Design agency, established in 1969 and based in Monmouth, South Wales.
We love design: for us its more than a job, it's who we are. Away from the studio we absorb ourselves in theatre, exhibitions, literature, music and our national heritage. We believe that the benefits gained are reflected in everything we do in our work.
Our portfolio covers magazines and newsletters, visual identities, packaging, exhibitions and display, and heritage interpretation. From time to time we also undertake more unusual projects such as cake making, silk tie painting and model making.
We have long-standing clients who keep coming back to us with new projects, as well as one-off commissions.
They say that they return because of the great service we provide (see our testimonials), right from the initial brief to delivery. Above all we are reliable - for us a deadline is sacrosanct.
Creating a lasting impression ...
The Sixties generated optimism and belief in a bright new future. 1969 was a year full of exceptional events:
• Man walked on the Moon
• The voting age in UK was lowered to 18
• Concorde launched a new era in flight
• The début of Monty Python’s Flying Circus heralded a new comedy culture
• The US army began development of the Internet
• Platform One was established.
Over the last four decades:
Concorde has been decommissioned, Monty Python members have carved out individual careers and come together again for a last hurrah, and the Internet has revolutionised communications and the way we now do business. Meanwhile, Platform One continues to solve problems, supply a creative service and meet the challenges of an ever-changing marketplace.
Our journey started as HEAD (Hughes & Evans Art and Design) in Bristol before moving to Chepstow. Geoff Hughes left the partnership to study Product Design at University and David Evans continued practising as David Evans Design Associates, with a team of three.
We remained in Chepstow for 15 years, before moving into offices above Platform 1 at Abergavenny Railway Station, where it seemed appropriate to rebrand ourselves. Our stay was short and after two years, we moved into offices in Cwmbran.
In 1996 we took the decision to move to our home town of Monmouth, confident that with the growing technology we could offer our clients the same attention to detail they had grown to rely on. Sherren McCabe-Finlayson joined the team in 1997 and became a partner in 2001.
We are a small team who thrive on the different challenges thrown our way. We've built carnival floats, made commemorative cakes, painted cushions, designed a shipping case for an elephant and transported a coffin in the back of a Cortina through a busy city to a photographer's studio!
Our clients benefit from a traditional, friendly, courteous and creative approach. We give commitment that goes way beyond the call of duty: we employ a policy of honouring budgets and meeting deadlines.
That’s why many of our clients have stayed with us for years. We'll let one have them have the last words:
"Since employing Platform One to assist us in improving our advertising and corporate imagery some years ago I have found David and Sher's ethos of working in partnership with their clients a godsend.
They listen, they communicate and they are eternally patient, flexible and helpful, often extending themselves and going the extra mile or miles to ensure an excellent service. I don’t go anywhere else!"
