Platform One

Abergavenny Station reflects an age when the railways took you to all parts of Britain.  The trains were frequent and reliable; everybody could afford the fare; a journey was an adventure, in polished wood-trimmed carriages adorned with black and white photographs of exciting and distant places. Mighty steam locomotives proclaimed to the world the greatness of British engineering and design.

When, in 1984, David Evans moved his studio into offices at the station he was inspired to change the company name from David Evans Design Associates to Platform One.  Since the commencement of business in 1969, it has always applied traditional values.  Clients are treated with courtesy and personal service; every job is given the utmost care and attention to detail.  We pride ourselves on meeting deadlines and charging accessible fees.  Platform One is on a never-ending journey where we treat every day as an adventure and a new opportunity.

Anniversary Musings...

Twenty years ago today I joined Platform One as a designer: three years later, I became a partner - one of the best decisions I've made.

I am blessed to work with my best friend(s), some lovely clients and fantastic suppliers, many of whom I consider friends.

During these years we have worked on some amazing projects throughout the UK and our foray into Abu Dhabi - a truly unforgettable experience.

Wow, has our industry changed during these years, not always for the better. When I joined, I brought the computer skills and trained David on the job. The studio still has samples of Letraset and camera-ready artwork, saved in the plan-chest for posterity. While 90% of our work has some computer aspect we still utilise our hand-drawing skills wherever possible.

Our studio is filled with laughter throughout the day, but we are equally serious about the work we create. Most of all I'm proud to work with a hugely talented designer and genuinely nice man.

David nurtured my talents, from my early days as a student on work experience, oversaw my work throughout my tenure in art college, and encouraged me during my other employment. So it was the most natural thing in the world when I joined him in the big adventure that is Platform One.

Here's looking forward to the next twenty years and all the wonderful projects that will hopefully be on offer. Whatever the challenges we are sure to embrace them wholeheartedly.
